After learning that footage which showed her publicly disciplining her teenage son had gone viral, the mum from Baltimore at the centre of the incident has opened up about the event.

Explaining the motivation behind her reaction, Toya Graham asserted that she wanted to protect her son, but was determined he did not repeat his mistakes,

Speaking to CBS News, the outspoken mother said: "I'm a no-tolerant mother (sic). Everybody knows that about me."

Opening up about the fury she felt when she found her 16-year-old son taking part in antisocial activity, Toya said: "He gave me eye contact. And at that point, you know, not even thinking about camera or anything like that."

Expressing fears for her son's future, Toya said: "That's my only son and at the end of the day I don't want him to be a Freddie Gray. I was shocked. I was angry because you never want to see your child out there doing that."

Admitting she disregarded camera and onlookers opinions, the teen's mum revealed that her emotions got the better of her, saying: "At that point, I just lost it."

In addition to public support, Toya has been praised by the city's police commissioner for her response to her son's worrying behaviour.
