Very sad news has emerged today, with reports that a 22-month-old infant died after being left in the backseat of a hot car in Australia.

According to reports, the little boy was found inside of a Toyota Hilux at about 3pm on Thursday, amid maximum temperatures of 31 degrees.

Local police have yet to confirm early reports speculating that the car was parked outside of a house that doubled as a childcare centre, and that the mother discovered the baby only after arriving to pick him up.

Investigating Inspector Ryan Irwin told the media that the authorities were currently looking into the reports, telling The Herald Sun: “I understand the boy has been found by a family member and paramedics were called, and obviously there were attempts made to try and revive the child.”

Describing the incident as an “absolute tragedy”, he added: “The family are devastated, absolutely devastated, and we’re still trying to track some family members down to actually notify them.”

Sources claim that officers had to break through the back window of the car to reach the child.

This is just the latest in a string of similar tragic stories, with a 22-month-old child recently losing its life after being locked in a car for eight hours in Atlanta.

We hope these tragic stories will raise awareness and ensure that such incidents never happen again.
