How do we deal with not conceiving month after month?

If you are months into trying to conceive without success, you are likely to get discouraged. It seems unfair to struggle with something that many of the people you know do so easily.

Be careful to manage your emotions in this trying situation by tuning into one another. Talk to each other about how you feel. Open up and share how you feel and lean on one another.

Look for support with other couples who are having the same struggle you are. A support group for couples trying to conceive will not only give you emotional support. There is evidence showing that it will increase your odds at conception.

If your entire world has become basal thermometers and calendar-dictated sex, take some time off. Experts in the field of fertility agree that there is little evidence showing that tracking your basal body temperature has any impact on conception. Experts feel it does little more than up the stress ante on an already stressful situation.

If you are being asked to attend celebrations revolving around babies, and you find that they make you sad, then take a break. Allow yourself to skip some social functions that do little more than reinforce your inability to conceive.

Make room in your life for fun. Don’t put new hobbies or interests on hold so you can focus on getting pregnant. There are tons of stories of people who finally conceived when they took a vacation or stopped thinking about it.

This is a good time to take up an interest you’ve always wanted to learn. The focus on something besides your empty womb will do wonders for your fertility. Have fun with your spouse and stay focused on your relationship.

If a year passes and you still have not had success, consult an expert.
