You asked

I have colour treated hair and find that the colour fades quickly. How can I prevent this?

Maintaining the health and vibrant appearance of coloured hair can be a challenge. Naturally, we want our colour to last as long as possible, especially with the high costs involved. Using hair products specifically designed for colour treated hair will help you keep your locks looking salon fresher for longer.

Moisturise
Colour treated hair can be weak and prone to breakage; therefore keeping it well moisturised and conditioned is of utmost importance. Most shampoos and conditioners for colour treated hair contain a sufficient amount of moisturiser. Their role is to prevent split ends and to keep the hair healthy and well nourished.

Colour enhancers
Many hair care products on the market contain ingredients that are meant to enhance the colour of existing hair. Some of these products contain active agents that gently refresh the dye, while others contain small amounts of temporary colour intended to brighten the hair.

Colour bomb
Some hair colours tend to fade quicker than others; especially red. If you find that you are only getting a week or so out of your colour, it may be useful to head to a salon supply shop to get a colour bomb in the same shade as your hair colour. A colour bomb is an easy to apply colour cream that gives your hair a nourishing and conditioning treatment, softening its look and resulting in a natural shine. Apply this to the hair with your conditioner. This will revitalise the colour, giving you another week or two before you have to hit the salon again. We recommend Revlon Professional Nutri Colour Creme.
