Are all hair brushes as good as each other? How do I find the best one?

Using the right hair brush can have a better effect on your hair than using the wrong one will. It’s something most of us don’t give much thought to. A good brush will make your hair shine more and even help hold your hair style better. In this article we look at the method behind the madness in terms of all the different brush sizes and shapes that are available in shops.

The barrel brush
Barrel brushes are great for all hair types and lengths of hair. When used properly they can make hair look thicker and more voluminous. They are round and best used for straightening and shaping. A professional Barrel Brush will offer great control, quicker drying and facilitate great styling.

Ceramic Styler
A ceramic Styler can be used to straighten and to add waves and loose curls. It should be used in tandem with your hair dryer. Ceramic Stylers feature a vented design to make drying time faster. They contain ceramic plates which lock in moisture and give hair a smooth and shiny look. This type of hair brush which can be made from 100% Natural Boar Bristles is best for medium to long hair of all hair types.

Styling brushes
Styling hair brushes are the multitaskers of hair brushes, they can style, smooth and shape the hair. They usually feature 6-8 rows of straight tufts of bristles. These brushes are made with nylon pins and are best for those with thick hair.

Ionic hair brush
If you have a problem with frizz as a lot of us do, it might be worth investing in an ionic hair brush. They combat frizz using negative ions. These brushes which are usually made with either nylon or boar bristles add shine and make hair smooth and soft. If your hair is weak and thin or damaged, we recommend choosing nylon bristles over boar bristles as boar bristles can break weak strands. Ionic hair brushes are available in a range of shapes and sizes such as barrel or paddle shapes.

Massage brushes
Meant more for brushing hair than actually styling it, massage brushes are great for providing a gentle scalp massage. These brushes are great for stimulating hair growth and are often used when shampooing or applying other hair styling products.

Hairbrushes can range greatly in price, styles, materials, and designs. Knowing which ones to buy begins with understanding the difference between them.
