Baby equipment retailer Babies ‘R’ Us has apologised after telling a mum that she couldn’t breastfeed in their store.

Marianna Aboulhosn from Montreal, US, was shopping in the store with her 10-month-old baby when the incident occurred.

Ms Aboulhosn initially headed to the store’s dedicated changing and nursing room, but found it occupied.

With her little one crying, Ms Aboulhosn opted instead for a secluded corner of the store, sat down on a chair reserved for customers, and proceeded to begin breastfeeding her baby.

When a store assistant approached her and told her to go to the nursing room, Ms Aboulhosn informed her that it was occupied.

However, the mother said she was left outraged after the assistant insinuated that she was lying, bringing her over to the now empty room to continue feeding her son.

When Ms Aboulhosn refused to use the room due to a foul stench, she was informed that there were no other options for her, and she was forced to leave.

Speaking after the incident, the mother told CBC Daybreak: “I left the store, I was so upset. I couldn’t believe what happened.”

Babies ‘R’ Us has since issued an apology, stating: “We take this issue very serious. Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us are committed to ensuring expectant moms and new moms are comfortable when shopping in our stores.”

They added: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
