Glaucoma requires early detection in order for successful treatment. Depending on the type of glaucoma there can symptoms or it can occur without any warning signs.
 
Open angle glaucoma: No early warning signs or symptoms even though the optic nerve is slowly being damaged. Most people don’t notice a change in sight until loss of peripheral vision occurs.
Angle closure glaucoma: Symptoms include hazy or blurred vision, appearance of coloured halos around lights, severe eye or head pain, nausea or vomiting, sudden weight loss. Symptoms will appear suddenly.
 
It is vital to diagnose glaucoma early on before there is any vision loss. There are lots of effective methods of treatment that can slow or prevent vision loss when the disease is detected early on.
