A father has profoundly moved people all around the world this week, with an impassioned speech about his experience of Down syndrome with his young son.

Robb Scott was compelled to take to social media and ‘right’ a ‘devastating’ incident at a local movie store, when he overheard a father tell his two young sons that Down syndrome is “an illness of not knowing anything”.

Robb – who is father to five-year-old Turner, who has Down syndrome – maintained his silence in the store, but couldn’t fight his guilt for not acting when he got outside.

Filming a video on his phone, from inside his car, an emotional Robb attempted to ‘right’ the incident by sharing his experience of living with Down syndrome, describing it as ‘one of the most beautiful things that’s ever happened’ in his life.

With tears flowing down his face as he feared he had ‘let that ignorance grow’ by not stepping in, Robb sent out a very powerful message that has resonated with many online.

“Disabilities are perception. I believe people are teachers and learners, and we’re both…And a well-educated man does not have more to teach than my son. He has different things to teach, but he doesn’t have more to teach. His knowledge is not more valuable,” he said.

This is important for me to say. Excuse my emotion.Kelly Macintosh-Scott.
