After 21 unsuccessful rounds of IVF, Lauren Lichtnauer turned to her best friend for support and as a bonus she got a surrogate.

Mum-of-four, Rosie Luik decided she had seen enough of Lauren and her husband’s heartbreak and decided to be a surrogate for them to have a child.

Speaking on Australia’s 60 Minutes, Rosie said:

“I just blurted it out, I said ‘look, we’ll discuss it later, but basically I’m going to have your baby.’

“I knew I was good at it. I’d had three babies. I had never had a complication. I just wanted to help Lauren.”

So she did it, Rosie became the surrogate for Lauren and Myron and ended up falling pregnant with twins.

But this act of generosity definitely did have some complications as weeks before arrival of the babies, Lauren learned she has miraculously fallen pregnant herself.

Lauren said:

“I started to cry and said to Rosie, ‘I have something to tell you and please don’t be mad and please don’t hate me’.

“She said, ‘What?’ and I said, ‘I’m pregnant’ and she burst into tears.”

Even after the rollercoaster it has been, the pair say this experience has only brought them closer as friends.

Rosie said:

“Seeing my best friends face when the babies were placed in her arms was just magical and it’s something I will never forget.”
