Below, we have curated a list of 10 of our all-time favourite ideas. Some of these are much easier to recreate than others, meaning that if you are really stuck for time and resources, you can simply DIY your costumes at home.

An oldie but a goodie! The Simpsons characters are always a popular costume choice each Halloween, and we can’t see that changing any time soon. Not only can you dress up as the five main characters - Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and baby Maggie - but you also have the remaining residents of Springfield as options, too! So, grab some yellow face paint, replicate their iconic costumes - and of course, make sure you have some donuts for Homer. D’oh!

The Addams Family

It wouldn’t be Halloween without The Addams Family! After the success of Netflix’s spin-off series Wednesday last year, these kooky characters have soared in popularity, and we have no doubt that you will see them everywhere this season. If you are a family of four, you can create the whole Addams family look with Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday and Pugsley. The little ones will have so much fun creating these looks!

Toy Story

The Toy Story characters have been beloved with us for decades now, and we’ll never get tired of seeing adorable kiddos dress up as Buzz and Woody each year. As the Toy Story ensemble is so vast, there are still plenty of options for all the family to get involved in! From characters such as Jessie and Little Bo Peep, to Barbie and the Army Men, you can get the whole gang together. If you wanted to be really creative, you could even have one of your loved ones dressed up as toy owner Andy!

Harry Potter

Harry Potter continues to be a popular franchise amongst youngsters and adults alike, so we guarantee that your little ones will be delighted to dress up with you as their favourite people from the Wizarding World! One lovely idea is to have teachers such as Albus Dumbledore or Professor McGonagall for the parents’ costumes, and then have your little ones cosplay as Harry, Ron and Hermione. Just don’t forget your magic wands!

Matilda

Roald Dahl’s Matilda has had a resurgence of love since the release of Matilda The Musical. So, this Halloween, what could be better than the whole family getting into the Matilda spirit! Of course, one of your little ones can dress up as the famous whizz kid, as well as other kid characters such as Bruce Bogtrotter and Lavender. Then, for the adults, you can choose between Matilda’s crazy parents, the villainous Miss Trunchbull or the sweet Miss Honey. Take your pick!

Mary Poppins

This idea would be so adorable for a family-of-four! Disney’s Mary Poppins is one of our all-time favourite movies, and the magical nanny herself is an incredible option when it comes to Halloween costuming. Alongside Mary, you can add her cockney sidekick Bert and the two children that she has been sent to look after - Michael and Jane Banks. Just add a ‘spoonful of sugar’, a dose of ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, and you’ll be good to go!

The Incredibles

The Parrs are one of our favourite Disney families, and they are such a lovely option for dressing up this Halloween! Taken from the movie The Incredibles, you can choose from mum Helen, dad Bob, and their three kids - Dash, Violet and baby Jack Jack. Naturally, it’s a bummer that your costumes won’t actually provide you with your own superhero powers, but it will be so much fun to pretend for the night!

If your loved ones ain’t afraid of no ghosts, then Ghostbusters is always a hit with Halloween costumes each year! The hit comedy movie has been revived several times over the decades, but nothing beats the 1984 original. If you are a family-of-four, you can don the iconic tan jumpsuit and proton packs that Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston rely on in the film. Then, if you have an extra member in your family, you can dress them up as a ghost!

Superheros

Last but not least, if everyone in your family is a huge fan of Marvel and DC superheroes, then you have an endless variety of costumes to pick from this year! The hit franchises tend to dominate cinemas every year with their huge array of heroes and villains. As their popularity only continues to grow, this makes them the perfect Halloween costume choice. You can go for any combination - from Captain America and Spiderman, to Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn, the list is endless!
