An 11-year-old boy who always dreamed of playing in the NFL has had a change of heart in recent days and now hopes to become a doctor.

After his heavily pregnant mother collapsed at their home and went into early labour, James Dukes sprung into action and helped deliver his younger sibling without the help of any medical professionals.

"All of a sudden I couldn't get to the bed any more and I just collapsed on the floor" recalls James stunned mum Kenyarda who gave birth almost instantly.

Upon meeting the baby boy, James instantly passed the infant to his mother before contacting emergency services.

Recalling the event, an incredibly capable James said "I grabbed the baby first and gave it to my mom. It didn't really scare me."

"Let me clean the baby off. Make sure he's OK. Make sure my mom is OK," related James as he explained his thought process at the time.

Calling emergency services, James explained the urgency of the situation, saying: "My mom just had the baby at the house. She needs somebody to come."

In the time it took to tend  to his family members and await the ambulance's arrival, James had a whole new career path in mind.

One man, who will no doubt support James' desire to become a doctor, is his incredibly proud father who was at work when his wife went into labour and gave birth to baby Royal.

Speaking to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, he said: "He is the epitome of when you tell your son that ‘You’re the man of the house so you have to take care of those responsibilities,’ and he did it to a ‘T'."

"Words can’t express how proud I am," he gushed as he reflected on the significance of his son's' quick-thinking and courage.

What an incredible bond James and Royal now share!
