Madra was just ten-years-old when she tragically passed away while flying to Nigeria with her family on Christmas Eve.

It is believed the youngster, who was with her three siblings on an Air Canada flight bound for London Heathrow before it was diverted to Shannon Airport, suffered a cardiac arrest mid-air.

Emergency medical services were on standby once the airplane landed at around 7.40pm. However, tragically the child died at University Hospital Limerick shortly afterwards.

The sisters, who are from Toronto, were on the way to Nigeria to spend Christmas with extended family - their mum had travelled on ahead.

The story broke the hearts of many and a GoFundMe page was set up by Madra's sister in a bid to give the youngster a proper send off.

"Our family is a single parent family of four children so we do not have the funds to have a proper burial for our beloved Madra," Fedelia Oo explained on the fundraising page.

"Any help you can give will be deeply appreciated by our family during this time of devastation and grief."

A target of $15,000 was set to bring her home, but incredibly, so far more than $20,000 has been raised by the public who were saddened by the family's tragedy.

"Madra was the light of our lives, she brought joy and happiness to our household and we will never be the same without her."
