27-year-old Lacey Spears has been sentenced to life in prison following the death of her son, Garnett Spears.
According to reports, Lacey intentionally harmed her little boy by overdosing his meals with salt in a bid to get attention from family members and followers of her online blog.
While it has been suggested that Lacey suffered from Munchausen by proxy, a condition which sees a parent intentionally make their child ill in order to get attention from family and medical professionals, the prosecutors in the young mum's case decided not to use that theory at trial.
Speaking at the trial, lawyer Patricia Murphy said: "The motive is bizarre, the motive is scary, but it exists."
Commenting on Lacey's apparent motive for her son's murder in January 2014, Patricia went on to say: "She apparently craved the attention of ehr family, her friends, her co-workers and most particularly the medical profession."
