A man has been arrested after an armed gang entered a Dublin home and a gun was held to the head of a seven-year-old child, the Independent.ie reports.

The harrowing situation took place earlier this week in west Dublin. Some of the men were reportedly dressed up as gardaí.

The gang gained entry into a home belonging to a young family, who also had friends visiting.

The men searched the house for cash, while one of them held a gun to the seven-year-old's head.

One of the victims managed to escape and alert others to the dangerous situation.

The armed men fled, getting away with some possessions.

A man thought to be the leader of the gang has been arrested, though, and is being held in a garda station in Dublin for questioning.
