Argh, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is back! And we don’t know how they managed it, but the sequel seems even bigger, fatter and Greek-er than the first movie.
We all remember just how much fun we had watching Fotoula ‘Toula’ Portokalos marry non-Greek vegetarian Ian Miller back in 2002 – and now, 14 years later, the family are coming together for another wedding – and you’ll NEVER guess who’s getting hitched this time round.
With an angsty teenage daughter and marriage troubles, the last thing the Portokalos-Millers want is to have to go to another wedding. Us however, we can’t wait!

1. Because we can relate to the big family madness
The Irish Mammy is a bit scary, slightly overbearing and completely lovable. The Greek Mammy is also a bit scary, slightly overbearing and completely loveable. Irish aunties and uncles get a little rowdy and inappropriate after a few drinks. Greek aunties and uncles also get a little rowdy and inappropriate after a few drinks. Sure look, we’re practically Greek!
2. Because we’re obsessed with weddings
Aren’t we though? The dress, the speeches, what the other guests are wearing (“Now I wouldn’t have put the coral with the yellow would you? Too garish”). We can’t get enough of them.
3. Because Aidan from SATC is in it (and still lookin’ well)
Let’s all take a moment to swoon over John Corbett shall we? You done? Good, us too. To this day we can’t believe Carrie ditched Aidan for Big. Aidan was sweet, a dog lover and could carve beautiful furniture with is bare hands for crying out loud! Yes, we know it’s not real life but what can we say? We’re still not over it.
4. Because we love the Portokalos family
They’re mad obviously, but they’re also absolute dotes. From Toula’s overly-patriotic father, Gus, to her flamboyant Aunt Voula, this family have carved a little place for themselves in our hearts.
5. Because it’s essentially feel-good
After we saw the first film in the cinema we walked out with big smiles plastered on our faces. The film is about love, family, laughter – all the things that are important in life.
6. Because the wedding dress is EVERYTHING
Toula’s “snow beast” wedding dress was amazing in the first movie, but just wait until you see this one!
7. Because we’re suckers for romance
We’ve had a romantic comedy-shaped hole in our lives for a while now. Movies in this beloved genre have been a little thin on the ground lately, so My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 couldn’t have come along at a better time.
8. Because we can’t wait to see where the family are now
It’s set 14 years later, so we can’t WAIT to see what the family is up to now, or if they’ve changed, and of course to meet the next generation of Portokaloses…
