School holidays can be both exhausting and very expensive. But having fun with your kids doesn’t mean you need to spend a fortune on activities.

Here are 8 things you can do with your little one for free and still have a great time.

Listen to music
Pop your little one’s favourite CD into the stereo or turn the radio up and spend an hour or two dancing around the living room. Prepare for full on belly laughs and funny dancing that your little one will no doubt try to get you to do.

Make a puzzle
When was the last time you sat down with your little one and made a puzzle? No doubt you have a few hiding up in the attic so get them down and enjoy an afternoon of quiet time with your son or daughter. Don’t go for something too big – your little one might lose interest fairly quickly if it is too complicated.

Draw
Get some paper and have fun drawing with your little one in the garden. Why not get a really long roll of paper, lie down and ask your little one to draw around you. Do the same with your youngster and see who can make the other person look the funniest.

Tell stories
Grab a cup of tea, get your little one a juice and sit out in the garden making up stories. You will be surprised at how creative your youngster can be when it comes to making up tales. Why not write them down so that you can look over them later and have a good giggle.

Go for a bike ride
Get your bikes and hit the road. Put a picnic together and stop off when you get hungry. Leave the map at home and get your little one to lead the way. You never know where you’ll end up – although, no doubt they’ll head straight to the park or sweet shop.

Have a puppet show
Puppet shows are great for encouraging your child to use their imagination. Get old socks and sew some buttons on for eyes. Cut a hole in a box and use it as the theatre.

Dress up
Let your kiddie go wild in your wardrobe and spend the afternoon dressing up in silly outfits. Why not turn it into a fashion show, but be prepared for a lot of cleaning up after.

Have a water fight
If it is particularly warm outside, fill a basin up with water, pop swimming togs onto your little one and go out and have some fun.
