The nostalgic ’80 TV show, Reading Rainbow is set to make a comeback, thanks to Kickstarter.

The former host of the show, LeVar Burton, is hoping to revive the show on the internet and is raising funds through his Kickstarter campaign.

Reading Rainbow was a great way for children to learn how to read back in the 1980s and now Burton is hoping the same can be achieved via the internet: “You take advantage of where the kids are. Back in the ‘80s that was in front of the television set. Today, you have to access the web.”

The show is available at the moment through an app for tablets but as not everyone has access to this, Burton is trying to widen this availability. Burton spoke about the education system and why reintroducing this show is so important: “Our educational system, - the way we educate our kids – is failing our children. We’re getting our asses kicked right now. Long term, I know if we’re successful we’re going to have a better educated populace in America, and we’ll be better prepared going forward.”
