As a mum who grew up with the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I was curious to see how this new version would compare. While the heart of the story remains, there are definitely some changes that set it apart from the classic animated film.
The casting choices were interesting. The actress playing Snow White brought a fresh and modern take to the role, though she felt quite different from the traditional version. The Evil Queen, on the other hand, was wonderfully dramatic and delightfully wicked—she stole the show for me!
The movie had a good balance of the classic fairytale with all the new elements, which worked well. I did like that made Snow White a stronger character. Always good to update these things.
Visually, the film was stunning. The costumes were beautiful, especially the Evil Queen’s outfits. The set design and the special effects made the magical elements feel real and exciting. The forest scenes, in particular, were breathtaking.
The themes in this version focused on courage, independence, and kindness, which I think are great messages for kids today.
Would I recommend it? Yes, it’s a fun family film with a new take on Snow White, it’s worth going to see.
I went to the movie with my two daughters, 7 and 9, I asked them what they thought … this was their response:
I really liked the movie! My favourite part was when Snow White explored the magical forest—it looked so cool, and the animals were brilliant. I also liked the funny parts, especially when they made silly jokes.
Snow White was nice and kind, but she was also brave. The Evil Queen was scary! And she was very sneaky too. I didn’t like her.
The songs were fun! There was one that got stuck in my head. Snow White’s dress was super pretty, and even though I didn’t like the Evil Queen her clothes were brilliant.
There were a few surprises in the movie that I didn’t expect, and that made it exciting. I think the movie teaches you to be kind and to stand up for yourself.
I would watch it again because it was a really good adventure and had lots of cool moments!
Thanks so much for letting us go see the movie, Mary, Jessica, and Sophie.
The Brennan family were gifted free tickets to see the movie to review it in March 2025.
