Lisa Jakub was only 14 when she was cast as Mrs. Doubtfire’s daughter Lydia, so she had to take some time off school. However, her school were not happy about having to accommodate a ‘non-traditional student’ and so they kicked her out. Which is when Robin Williams stepped in.
Lisa wrote a beautiful blog about Robin after hearing about his tragic death, and revealed that the day after she got kicked out, Robin wrote her school a letter, asking them to reconsider their decision, as after working with the young actress he found her to be “bright, inquisitive, and an eager to learn young lady”.
While the school didn’t change their minds about Lisa, they hung the letter on the wall, and the actress said: “Here’s what matters from that story. Robin stood up for me. He was in my corner. I was only 14, but I had already seen that I was in an industry that was full of back-stabbing. And it was entirely clear that Robin had my back.
"Even though I had not spoken with Robin in a very long time, I always assumed there would be some future opportunity to tell him that his letter changed my life. It taught me that you stand up for the things that matter. And even if your attempts fail, you tried. You told the truth. You took care of your friends. You fought back."
