She is currently pregnant with her first child, and actress Catherine Tyldesley has decided to share her thoughts on body image.

In a new column with Hello! magazine, the former Coronation Street star admitted that she was shocked by the amount of letters she had received from readers who looked negatively upon their pregnancy figures.

Blaming the media for promoting a false image of celebrity pregnancies, the 31-year-old wrote: “It has always amazed me that some people view a lady’s pregnant body in a negative way…We are bombarded [with] pictures of ‘celebrities’ posting photographs of themselves five minutes after giving birth looking….well…tiny.”

Opening up on how she has been practicing meditation and yoga during her pregnancy, Catherine added: “I’m a firm believer in keeping fit during pregnancy and I certainly don’t believe junk food is at all necessary.”

She also urged mums-to-be to give acknowledge themselves for the “amazing” things their bodies are going through, adding: “Hold your heads high yummy mummies! Be happy, be healthy and deflect negativity from your life – you’re awesome.”

Now that’s the kind of advice we can get to grips with”
