They have carried out some incredible work, and changed lives, and now Adi Roche and Ali Hewson are set to be honoured for all they have accomplished for children and families affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

The University of Limerick is set to award Honorary Doctorates of Letters to Ms Roche, who is the founder and voluntary CEO of Chernobyl Children International (CCI), as well as Ms Hewson, who is a CCI Board Member and activist.

The honorary doctorates, which are due to be conferred on April 28, are an acknowledgment of the pair’s incredible work since the formal founding of the CCI, in 1991.

Under their guidance, the CCI has been able to deliver over €100million worth of humanitarian aid to the areas worst affected by the nuclear disaster.

Furthermore, over 25,000 children have been brought to Ireland for rest and recuperation, while over 3,500 have been given life-saving operations and treatment through the CCI's cardiac programme.

This is the latest honour to be bestowed upon Adi and Ali; last year, they both received the Princess Grace Humanitarian Award for activism and humanitarian work.

Congratulations to Adi and Ali on another well-earned achievement.
