With shopping lists to tend to, presents to wrap and entire turkey dinners to prepare and serve, it can be easy to lose sight of what Christmas is all about – spending time, sharing stories and enjoying the magic of the season with family members and loved ones.

One video, which has done much to remind us what the festive season is truly about this week, captures a special moment between a much-loved granddaughter and her beloved grandfather who unfortunately suffers from Alzheimer’s.

Flying from Australia to Ireland in order to surprise her grandfather in time for Christmas Day, Charlotte donned a Santa suit and presented herself in the family home to a reaction which would bring a tear to anyone’s eye.

Commenting on the relationship which Charlotte shares with her grandfather, Charlotte’s uncle, who uploaded the footage to YouTube, explained: “She was, and still is, Dad’s favourite.”

“Dad might have Alzheimer’s but he will never forget his first grandchild even though he hasn’t seen her for two years.”

Having flown Charlotte in especially to see her grandfather over the festive break, her uncle continued: “I am sure he’ll agree it beats a pair of socks and aftershave any day. He was still crying an hour later.”

“This is what Christmas is all about,” he insisted and we could not agree more.

Take a look at this.
