Anam Cara had their annual National Balloon Release at Lloyd Park, Tullamore, Co. Offaly on November 2nd, All Souls Day, the day when we traditionally remember loved ones who have died. Mum of eight Miriam O’Callaghan is the charity’s ambassador and she joined parents from across the country as 5,000 balloons were released in memory of children who have died.

The event is the launch of Anam Cara’s ‘Month to Remember’ which will continue until the end of November. Anam Cara is a national voluntary support organisation set up by bereaved parents to support newly bereaved parents throughout Ireland after the loss of a child. The Anam Cara Balloon to Remember pins will be on sale throughout the month to raise awareness and fundraise for the organisation. You can purchase these pins nationwide or by visiting www.anamcara.ie.

To date, Anam Cara has given support to over 2,000 families throughout Ireland. The impact of the death of a child, of any age, brings with it an intense grief. Anam Cara understands this grief and parents a little longer further on in their journey reach a hand back to help newly bereaved parents as they embark on their journey of loss.

Charity ambassador Miriam O’Callaghan, who launched the first balloon, said “These families have suffered more than any of us can bear to imagine, but it is heartwarming to see the support and comfort that they can get from those who have been through the same tragedy and really understand their loss. These parents are an inspiration to us all, and the selflessness of Anam Cara and the amazing work that they do will hopefully reach even more families who are suffering a loss.”

This annual campaign aims to highlight the invaluable and unique support Anam Cara provides bereaved parents as it is parents who have themselves lost a child running almost every aspect of the organisation. For more information on its services please visit www.anamcara.ie or information line 085 2888 888.
