The nation's favourite duo will not be coming back to the small screen for Saturday Night Takeaway, next year.

Usually the programme would hit the airways in February 2019, however Ant has announced his decision to "rest".

Speaking to the Sun, Ant said his "recovery was going well" and in order for that to continue he has chosen to defer the show until 2020.

The host will take a year out and thanked those who have supported his choice.

“I’d like to thank both Dec and ITV for their continued support and I look forward to getting back to work in the new year,” he said.

Production for their popular Saturday segment can begin six months before the programme goes live, explained a source to the Sun.

"Sadly that means they have had to tell the production team today that they’re going to have to push the next run back until the following year," the source reported to the publication.

It's believed that the beloved 'I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!' will be short of Ant too, for this year's edition.

The Sun reported that Dec will still take part in the reality show, but there has been no indication given if Dec will host solely or if someone will fill Ant's shoes.

Dec Donnelly has a busy schedule ahead, as he is due to become a father next month.

The 42-year-old and his wife, Ali Astall are expecting their first child together.

Ant and Dec will be sorely missed as a dynamic duo on the telly.

Wishing Ant a speedy recovery and we cannot wait to see what Dec gets up to this year.
