Going into labour ahead of your due date is a frightening and often traumatic experience, so our hearts go out to the couple in the following story after their ordeal earlier this week.
A professional US basketball player, Iman Shumpert, has hit the headlines after delivering his daughter when his fiancée, Teyana Taylor went into labour in their bathroom.
According to an emotionally-charged post on the new mum’s Instagram, she didn’t even know that she was in labour until she felt her daughter’s head coming out on Wednesday.
With her due date set for mid-January, Teyana and Iman were understandably taken aback, but with no chance of making it to the hospital in time, they acted promptly.
Praising Cleveland Cavaliers star Iman, Teyana wrote: “It took two 10-count pushes with my fiancé playing doctor, and she entered this world into his bare hands!”
Iman’s improvisation skills have greatly impressed, with Teyana revealing that he used headphones to hold the umbilical cord until the ambulance arrived to take Mum and newborn Iman Tayla Jr. to hospital.
“She has blown Christmas away! Our family is complete,” wrote the delighted new mum, sharing a beautiful photo of the couple’s newborn to the photo-blogging site.
What a tale to tell the little one when she gets older! Congratulations to the new parents.
