Being a new mum is a demanding but rewarding job on every level, which is something that Bepanthen has shed light on in a new survey involving mothers in Ireland.

To coincide with the launch of their ‘First Moments’ campaign to celebrate the precious early days of motherhood, Bepanthen nappy care ointment has today released some interesting new research.

Any new mums out there thinking that they’re the only ones worrying about their mothering skills in the weeks and months after welcoming their little one will no doubt take comfort in the fact that they are not alone.

In the survey involving a panel of 1,330 mums in Ireland, Bepanthen found that new mums make two ‘SOS’ calls per day in the early months of motherhood, with Cork mums surpassing the national average by making three such calls per day.

The study also showed that we are never too old to turn to our mums for help, with 68% of mums logging calls to their own mothers, with burning topics ranging from baby feeding and sleeping patterns to nappy rash and poop.

Anyone worried that they are not prepared enough for the imminent arrival of their little one is not alone either, with nine out of 10 mums surveyed admitting to not being financially prepared for parenthood. Furthermore, over two-fifths of those surveyed admitted to never having saved for parenthood.

These statistics aside, we are sure that many of you will agree with the majority of the mums in this survey when it comes to naming the most daunting moment of motherhood – the first time your little one falls ill. A close second was the infamous trip home from the hospital.

Of course, it is the learning process of being a new mum which adds to the wonder of this very special time in your life, which is something that mum-of-one and newly-unveiled Bepanthen ambassador Pippa O’Connor can attest to.

Commenting after the release of the new research today, Pippa said: “We experience so many firsts in life but I have to say, none came close to my first moments of motherhood. To hold Ollie in my arms and finally meet the baby I had been carrying for nine months was pretty amazing. Bepanthen’s ‘First Moments’ campaign is all about remembering those precious moments and reliving that special feeling when mothers are born, as well as babies!”
