The birth control patch is, as the name suggest, a patch that delivers a combined hormone dose that stops you from getting pregnant – much like the pill does. It is a different combination of hormones but the effect is the same.

Unlike the pill, however, the patch only needs to be replaced once a week for three weeks with a weeks break in between, so it’s perfect if you don’t want to have to remember to take your pill.

The patch is a small, thin adhesive patch that can be applied to your stomach, buttocks, thigh or arm and it is visible. It’s reliable and easy to use, however it does have the same possible side effects as the birth control pill, so you might find that the hormone combination does not work for you.

If you’re interested in using the patch instead of the pill and other contraceptive methods, speak to your doctor about where to get them.
