Authorities are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old boy by eight of his fellow pupils, at a boarding school in Dublin.

According to a report by the Irish Times, the incident occurred last Thursday night, at King’s Hospital Secondary School in Palmerstown. It was only reported to authorities the following Tuesday.

Early reports allege that the unnamed boy was attacked in his dormitory, with a hockey stick.

Gardaí and Ireland’s child and family agency, Tusla, are now investigating the shocking allegations.

In the meantime, the eight pupils connected with the assault have been suspended.

While the school’s principal, John Rafter, did confirm that an investigation is underway, he declined to issue any further comment on the alleged incident.

In light of the legal obligation to report child abuse or neglect ‘without delay’, there could be further ramifications for the school.
