A Spanish community is in shock this week, after the body of a toddler who went missing during family dinner was discovered.

According to reports, three-year-old Lucia Vivar Hidalgo was found dead near train tracks, by a train driver, in Pizarra.

Little Lucia is said to have died from brain trauma, after enduring serious head injuries.

The child went missing last Wednesday, while her family were enjoying dinner on the terrace of a restaurant.

Parents Antonio and Almudena claim they were eating their meal at around 11pm, while Lucia was playing with her cousins. They say they looked away for ‘two minutes’, in which time the toddler had vanished.

A massive search to find Lucia was launched, with the Guardia Civil joined by local firefighters and a staggering 300 volunteers.

Sadly, the search came to a devastating end when a train driver contacted the police to say he had found little Lucia’s body, on railway tracks located about seven kilometres from where she was last seen.

Secretary of State Jose Antonio Nieto has spoken out over the tragedy. He confirmed that an investigation is now underway, and that authorities do not believe kidnap was a factor in Lucia’s disappearance.

Indeed, police believe that Lucia walked to the train tracks herself. They reckon that the little girl grew tired and lay down to sleep, and was then struck by a passing train.

This is such a tragic story. Our thoughts are with the family of little Lucia – we can’t imagine what they must be going through right now.
