Gardaí are carrying out an investigation this week, after a Limerick teen was reportedly held at knifepoint during a home burglary.

The Irish Mirror reports that the boy – whose name has not been disclosed to the public – was at home alone on Tuesday night when the incident took place.

A male intruder is said to have entered the teen’s home in the city at around 7pm, wielding a knife.

The intruder then allegedly held the teen at knifepoint and threatened to harm him unless he told him where the family’s valuables were kept in the house.

The burglary is said to have lasted around 10 minutes, during which time the intruder stole the teen’s mobile phone as well as some cash and jewellery.

Thankfully, the boy was not injured in the ordeal, and gardaí were called to the scene shortly after.

The house is to be forensically examined, while interviews have already been carried out with neighbours. CCTV footage taken from the area is also set to be reviewed.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch with their headquarters in Henry Street, Limerick; you can do so by calling 61212400.
