Couples all over the world look forward to the loved-up celebrations of Valentine’s Day, but it can be a very difficult day for those nursing a broken heart.
Indeed, for recently divorced British mum Emma Schofield, it was the one day that she was “secretly dreading”.
Things took a turn for the heart-warming, however, when her four-year-old son Max organised the ultimate surprise to cheer her up.
Sharing her uplifting story on the ‘Spotted Newton Abbot’ Facebook page, Emma described how a special restaurant ‘date’ with her little boy reduced pretty much everyone to tears.

Recalling the events of Valentine’s Day, she wrote: “My son told me to close my eyes…and he proceeded to choose me a Valentine’s card and a small teddy bear in a gift bag. My eyes welled up as we continued to shop.”
Next, the tot took his mum to Pizza Express, where he wanted to treat her to a ‘special meal’: “He also brought his jar of pennies with him. After a delicious three-course meal, we went to pay. We were greeted with a waitress in tears, who had watched our special ‘dinner date.’”
The staff were so touched by little Max’s gesture that they gave them their meal free of charge – which left Emma in tears!
The adorable tale has touched hearts all over the internet, with Facebook users commending Max’s ‘impeccable morals’.
