The bravery and determination of children and young people leaves us gobsmacked and overwhelmed at times, and it’s safe to say that the achievements of this little boy have taken our breath away this weekend.

Bailey Matthews, an eight-year-old boy who has fought cerebral palsy his entire life, has been praised this week after competing in the local Castle Howard Triathlon in North Yorkshire, England.

What makes Bailey’s achievement even more incredible, is what he did as he approached the finish line. At the end of an exhausting 100-metre lake swim, four kilometre bike ride and 1300-metre run, Bailey threw aside his wheels and crossed the finish line solo.

Paying tribute to Bailey, the team behind the event’s Facebook page shared an image of the amazing moment, writing: “We all witnessed an incredible moment today with an amazing display of unparalleled bravery. Here is a picture of young Bailey Matthews from Doncaster…completing his first ever triathlon.”

“Bailey has cerebral palsy, and was cheered over the line by hundreds of emotional spectators,” they added.

Luckily for us, a bystander captured the amazing moment on video and has shared it online. Check it out below.
