10 people have been taken to hospital following a crash between a school bus and a van in Donegal at 8.15am this morning.

 

Eight schoolchildren along with the two drivers of both vehicles were rushed to hospital after the collision which occurred outside the village of Porthall, according to The Irish Independent.

 

The 53-seater bus was taking 20 children to school in the Raphoe area when the crash happened near Carrickmore in St Johnston.

 

The parents of children who were hospitalised have been notified and it’s understood that none of the injured were seriously hurt in the collision.

 

 

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is now taking place.

 

Garda Inspector Michael Harrison has appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward.

 

He said: “A total of eight children and two drivers have been taken to hospital but thankfully none of the injuries are serious.

"This accident could have been much worse and we are now investigating the cause of this accident.

 


"We would appeal to anybody who may have witnessed the accident to get in contact with Gardaí," he added.
