In a terrifying attack which also left his 22-month-old older brother and mother with serious injuries, a baby boy has died after being attacked by a dog.

The incident took place yesterday, with all three family-members being rushed to hospital in the aftermath.

The dog, believed to be a Staffie, is currently being held by police. An investigation into the death has begun.

The home, in Colchester, Essex, remains surrounded by police tape this morning.

Chief Inspector Elliot Judge said: "This is a tragic incident that Essex Police is investigating.

"Specially trained officers are providing support to the family at this difficult time. We will not be making any further statement at this time and would ask the media to respect the family's privacy."

Neighbour John Williams furthermore told Mail Online: "You just feel for the people there, the family going through it and also for the officers with some of the things they see."
