Distressing news has emerged from China this afternoon, with reports of an explosion at a kindergarten in the east of the country.

 

According to The Telegraph, the explosion struck at Chuangxin Kindergarten in Feng Country, Jiangsu, at around 4:50pm local time today.

 

Early reports claim that parents were waiting for their children to finish up class, when the explosion went off at the entrance to the building.

 

The exact cause of the explosion has not yet been divulged to the media. For now, however, local police are reporting that dozens of people have been hospitalised, among them women and children.

 

Horrific images from the scene have also begun circulating on social media, showing bodies lying on the ground and injured adults comforting children.

 

There is no word yet on whether the explosion has claimed any lives.
