Gardaí at Laytown are currently investigating an incident which occurred at a house in Co. Meath in the early hours of the morning.

The Independent this afternoon reports that a shooting took place at a house in Glasheen, Stamullen at approximately 1am this morning.

According to the site's sources, residents in the area describe hearing a 'massive blast' in the middle of the night.

Commenting on the incident, a spokesman for the Gardaí confirmed: "Gardaí at Laytown are investigating an incident of criminal damage to the door of a house at Mill Close, Stamullen at about 1am on Friday morning."

"The damage was caused by the discharge of a single shot from a shotgun at the door.  There were no injuries. Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made to date."
