Christmas is truly the most magical time of the year, and the latest Santa letter story proves it in truly heartwarming fashion.

A 78-year-old man has been reunited with the letter he sent to Santa Claus at the age of six years old.

It was builder Lewis Shaw who made the wonderful discovery, up the chimney of a house he was due to demolish in Reading, UK.

The letter read: “Dear Father Christmas, Please can you send me a Rupert annual, and a drum box of chalks, soldiers and Indians, slippers and any little toys you have to spare, Love David.”

Eager to solve the mystery of the 72-year-old Santa letter, Lewis took to Facebook and appealed to anyone who might be able to identify the child from the letter to come forward. To his delight, the author of the letter, David Haylock, got in touch.

According to local newspaper Get Reading, not only did Lewis give David back his letter, but he also purchased and wrapped the requested items as a special surprise. As you can imagine, David was overwhelmed by the gesture.

Recalling writing the letter, David said: “It was war time when I sent this. I can remember bending down with my mother and putting it up the chimney, and waiting for the draught to take it up.”

While he is excited to open his presents, he insisted that he will be waiting until the 25th to do so!
