The world was left completely stunned when a Hungarian camerawoman was filmed tripping up a man carrying a child as he fled from police.

In the shocking footage that subsequently went viral, the mum of two young children is seen putting her foot out as a father runs by holding a child, something she now says she regrets.

In a letter to Magyar Nemzet, a Hungarian newspaper, the woman, who also reportedly kicked a running child, wrote: "I panicked. I'm not a heartless, child-kicking racist camera-person. As I watch the footage now, it's like I'm not watching myself. I honestly regret what I have done and take responsibility for it."

The woman in question was fired from her job at N1TV and now also faces criminal charges for breaching the peace.

"Only now could I get myself together enough to be able to write. I'm in a state of shock because of what I did and what has been done to me. I was recording with the camera when hundreds of migrants broke through the police cordon, one of them ran into me and I panicked,” she continued.

In reference to her own family life, she went on to say that she was “particularly sorry that fate had it that a child was running at [her]”.

The internet has, not surprisingly, condemned her actions, with one person writing, “you are a disgrace to your profession".

However, she has tried to change people’s opinions of her by saying: “I'm just a woman, now unemployed mother of small children, who made a bad decision in a panic situation."
