A solar eclipse will occur in the United States on August 21 and to mark the occasion the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas announced they would be having a party to celebrate it.

The event appealed to many families with a mix of fun and educational activities.

“We will be having out-of-this-world space activities, including learning about meteorites with our educators, giving out free solar eclipse glasses, and creating pinhole cameras with the TECH Truck”, they wrote on their Facebook page.

“While we won't be in the path of the total eclipse, we'll get to enjoy a partial one here and will have a live stream of the complete eclipse from NASA.

“Feel free to dress up, as sun or space-related costumes are encouraged.”

Unfortunately, as US schools start back that week, many parents expressed disappointment that they wouldn’t be able to take their little ones.

But one mum didn’t want her kids to miss out and left an earnest query on the event page asking: “Most kids go back to school that day. Can it be done on the weekend?”

Like any good mum, she just didn't want her kids to miss out on a fun event.

However, bemused Facebook users pointed out the impossibility of her request, with one writing: “Did that lady just ask to reschedule the sun?”

While another joked: “Can we reschedule because I’m in Florida by the time we get there?”

Others soon chimed in with their own ludicrous requests to “reschedule” the eclipse.

"It's all good, everyone. I just got my time machine fixed. You can reschedule it for whenever, I'll just go see it yesterday”, one man wrote.

However, the museum soon cleared up any misunderstanding, replying to the mum’s query respectfully.

They wrote: “This event is taking place during the actual solar eclipse and is centred around watching the eclipse in real time.

“We are also celebrating with an eclipse-themed sleepover on August 11 which will focus on the science of the eclipse and other sun-related activities. This event might work better for your kids”.

We guess the stress of back-to-school preparations got to this mum – we hope she can see the funny side of things!
