The addition of a pet into any willing household is always a cause for celebration, but in the case of the Tipton family the arrival of little Doc signified something a little more meaningful.

Acting as a support system for two-year-old Scarlett who lost her arm as a result of cancer, three-legged Doc has done much to placate Scarlette over concerns regarding her appearance.

Like any mum, Simone Tipton would have done anything in her power to help her child through the aftermath of her cancer diagnosis, and so decided to use her daughter's love of cats as a means of supporting her little girl whose arm was amputated shortly after birth.

Taking to Facebook, Scarlette's mum explained that she had been hoping to find a three-legged cat for her little girl. but the search was proving more difficult than anticipated.

Previously outlining her issue, Simone explained: "Finding a baby cat, with a front limb amputation, close to home, has been IMPOSSIBLE. I've checked all the adoption pages multiple times a week for months to try to find the perfect friend."

Thankfully, the devoted mother finally came across little Doc who she adopted on behalf of her little girl on Christmas Eve, and it looks like the kitten's arrival has sparked a lifelong friendship, with Simone gushing: "Scarlette absolutely adores cats, and we wanted a little kitten to have her grow up with, so she has something that's just like her."

Scarlette, who was born with Undifferentiated Spindle Cell Sarcoma which required the amputation of her arm, shoulder, clavicle and scapula, immediately noticed Doc's unique appearance, and according to reports. placed her hand on the kitten's side before agreeing she was just like her.

Overjoyed by her brave little girl's reaction to her new friend, Simone told Facebook followers: "I can't wait to watch their relationship grow!"

Our hearts are melting!
