With news that work on the New National Children’s Hospital is now underway, parents and young patients are looking forward to top of the range equipment and services when the finished product is unveiled.

Hoping to lend a helping hand is Irish organisation the Ronald McDonald House Charity, which has just launched a new fundraising initiative to build a new ‘House’ on site.

The charity is hoping to open a new building alongside the hospital, on the grounds of St James’ Hospital, to accommodate 53 families in need of a place to stay.

As the house is set to cost in excess of €16 million to build and equip, the #Walk4Families initiative has been launched once again in a bid to raise much-needed funds.

The 5K fundraising walk will take place at various locations around the country, and will run across Saturday, 10th September and Sunday, 11th September.

Registration for one family costs €20, and all funds will go towards the Ronald McDonald House Charity.

RMHC CEO Marian Carroll explains: “For €20 per family, people can take part in the walk and support a brilliant cause that makes a challenging time for families so much easier. If families can’t do the walk that weekend, they can still contribute using our text donation service.”

The main event will take place in Galway, starting at the Salthill Prom, and will feature lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
