According to reports released by the Dublin Simon Community, the number of families currently making use of emergency accommodation in the country's capital is increasing.

Commenting on the statistics which indicate that 1,425 children are currently availing of emergency accommodation, the charity dubbed it 'totally unacceptable'.

With 677 families currently in emergency accommodation, fears have been communicated regarding the homeless situation in the capital.

Speaking on behalf of the Dublin Simon Community, Sam Mc Guinness shed light on the current figures, saying: "Figures for October have increased again and it’s nearly 700 families in emergency accommodation coming into November and coming up to Christmas."

Taking the festive season into account, he continued: " It looks like also there is also nearly 1450 children in emergency accommodation and that doesn’t hold out for a great Christmas for all those suffering people so we would be very concerned about that."

Expressing doubt as to whether the situation is likely to improve, Mr. Mc Guinness considered the figures, saying: "That number doesn’t look like it is going to abate at all."
