A young girl has been granted an emergency care order after gardaí found her mother passed out on New Year’s Eve.
Gardaí were called to a hotel where the mother was staying and said they found the door to her room open, television on with the mother passed out on the bed.
After minutes of trying to wake her, the woman eventually woke and had no idea where her daughter was.
The Family Court heard statements from the gardaí who said they were concerned for the welfare of the girl and asked if she could be placed in the care of the HSE.
The young girl had been living with her grandmother who told the court she wants to continue to care for her granddaughter.
However, the court said they feared interference from the girl’s parents.
The court eventually granted the girl the order to be placed in State care until an assessment is done into her grandmother’s capability to care for her.
