There are no hard and fast rules to what childcare will cost you. It will vary from facility to facility, between different areas, and according to how many hours your child spends in child care, among other factors. Your child’s age, how much care he or she needs, and many other factors all play a role in what you will pay for childcare but there are a few basic guidelines you can use to work out what you will be paying.

Day care centres are one of the most popular childcare choices and these will cost more in cities and affluent areas than they do in the suburbs or rural areas. It’s a good idea to phone before hand to find out what the average cost will be.

Home based day care is another popular option, and they are typically slightly more expensive than day care centres, however, your care giver is likely to be more flexible.

A nanny is the most expensive option and you need to bear in mind that when you hire a nanny, you’ll have to pay that person a salary. That should give you some idea of what the cost will be.

Opting to have a relative care for your child is usually the cheapest option and you may find that they refuse payment altogether. However, the level of care may not be the same as it would with a trained professional and you may find that you argue more about childcare.
