Whiling away a day on a hospital ward can be tedious at the best of times, but when you're a child every minute can feel like an hour.

So we can only imagine how delighted patients at our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin were when reigning All-Ireland hurling champions, Kilkenny, stopped by to pay a visit yesterday.

Fresh from their triumph in Croke Park, players from the elated team delayed their return to Kilkenny in order to spend time with children in the Dublin hospital.

Posing for photos with delighted patients, the hurling champions celebrated their victory in the company of some very happy and surprised children.

According to delighted staff members, team manager, Brian Cody, team captain Lester Ryan and players Cillian Buckley and Kieran Jocye made their way through the children's hospital, proudly carrying the Liam McCarthy cup.

The players stayed for a number of hours before returning to Kilkenny in order to continue celebrations.

What a wonderful gesture!
