A 28-year-old man has been hospitalised after a shooting in a home in west Belfast.
The paramilitary style attack occurred on Cavendish Street last night.
Three men entered the dwelling, striking the 28-year-old on the head before shooting him in both knees and his right ankle.
A woman in the house was also assaulted. Four children were among the residents of the home, and witnessed the horrific incident.
"The residents, including young children, have been left terrified by these events," PSNI Detective Sergeant Kelly.
The detective condemned the men's actions, saying, "This was a brutal attack in a busy residential area and yet another example of how criminal groups seek to control communities through fear and violence."
Anyone who has information on the attack is asked to contact Musgrave Criminal Investigation Branch on 101, quoting reference 1064 of 30/12/17.
Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
