The Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal is taking place this week and will be finishing up on November 11th. People across Ireland are filling their shoeboxes with goodies that will make for a lovely Christmas present for children in Third World Countries whose families survive on as little as €1 a day.

Team Hope is hoping that the number of boxes received nationwide this year will supersede the number received last year, bringing even more smile to the faces of underprivileged children.

You pack and wrap the shoebox yourself and Team Hope will check it and send it out to their partners overseas who will then deliver it. All you have to do is get a shoebox and fill it with items for a child in need and include a €3 donation for transportation and distribution. Shoeboxes can contain anything from toys, educational items or small household goods such as soap, toothpaste, envelopes, paper and pens along with treats. This will be the first present that many of these children will receive.

So, if you would like to give away Christmas in a shoebox and bring love and joy to a deprived needy child, there is still time. Team Hope will accept boxes up until the 18th November.

Team Hope will check that each box meets all the customs and safety requirements, seal it and send it on its way by truck or container.  In the receiving country, Team Hope’s network of partners will deliver it right into a child’s hands – in hospitals, schools, shelters, churches, orphanages, community centres or family homes.  All the information about how to pack a shoebox is in a leaflet which is available from the local co-ordinator, by phoning Team Hope at 01 2940222 or via the website www.teamhope.ie. All drop-off points are also available on www.teamhope.ie.

Your Shoebox can turn just another day in a child’s life into something very special, a day that they will remember for years to come.
