Undoubtedly, one of the biggest stories this week comes from Maine in the US, where a business owner has found herself at the centre of controversy over her treatment of a young patron.

The story of Marcy’s Diner owner Darla Neugebauer ‘screaming’ at a 20-month-old little girl has gone viral around the world, but the detail that people have been most focused on is Darla’s unapologetic response.

Darla has come under fire for how she handled the situation after a public complaint was issued, saying: “I wouldn’t really change too much of the situation. I’ve got a business to run and unfortunately that little girl was disrupting a lot of it.”

Now, not only has the child’s mother, Tara Carson responded to the incident with an op-ed piece in the Washington Post, but a protest has been planned for this coming Sunday at Marcy’s.

Marcy’s Diner is set for investigation due to an overwhelming backlash and log of complaints, but Darla has remained defiant in the face of the controversy.

When asked for comment regarding the upcoming protest, the diner owner told local media: “That’s totally okay with me. Bring cash.”

It looks as though this diner drama isn’t going to be going away anytime soon.
