Sometimes, brushing your toddlers teeth can be an ordeal. Here are some tips to get your toddler to like brushing his teeth and to get used to this task.
• Make sure that you practice what you preach. Kids love to imitate their parents, so when your toddler see’s you brushing and enjoying it, chances are he will want to join in.
• Let your child do it. Even though at this age, you will have to make sure the brushing is done properly, let your toddler brush on his own as well. This will make him feel he is a bigger part of the process.
• Brush together. Get a step stool so that your toddler can stand at the sink with you and look in the mirror. Make sure he has a special toothbrush and his own cup as well.
• Use toothpaste that is meant for kids. Children under 2 should not use fluorinated toothpaste, and most adult toothpastes are too strong for a child.
• Never force tooth brushing on your child. This will only make him have negative feelings about tooth care.
The important thing is to get your child to be positive and enthusiastic about brushing his teeth.
