As various different reports have proven in recent times, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye and without warning – which is something that a British coroner wants parents everywhere to take on board this week.

Coroner Karen Dilks urged parents to be wary of ‘unexpected risks’ involving fruit and other small objects as she ruled the death of Jacob Jenkins a ‘tragic accident’.

As you may recall, little Jacob passed away after choking on a grape while dining out at a Pizza Hut with his parents, Abigail and David.

After realising that the grape was stuck, Abigail and David attempted to free the fruit from their two-year-old’s throat. The tot was then rushed to a Middlesbrough hospital, before being transferred to Great North Children’s Hospital.

Jacob, who had stopped breathing for half an hour, was in a coma for four days before he finally passed away.

According to a report in The Mirror, the coroner passed on her condolences to the family at this week’s inquest, before urging parents everywhere to be wary of the danger that small fruit and food can pose to young children.

This latest report comes just weeks after 15-month-old Thomas Ford lost his life when he choked on a blackberry.
